Embarking on a Leadership Journey

This summer I completed my first residency in Victoria as part of the Leadership program that I have embarked on and as I reflect on that time (and much warmer temperatures), I am feeling inspired. I am pleased to have the opportunity to hone my skills as a future leader by participating in the Master of Arts in Leadership program at Royal Roads University. The two weeks I spent in Victoria this July gave me an opportunity to meet future leaders in a variety of sectors from across the country. Both the faculty and the campus were stimulating and have me looking forward to what will be a two year program and a lifelong journey.

As part of the Alberta Wheat Commission’s (AWC) strategic priorities we are committed to developing strong farm leaders. In search of a forum to share some of the interesting and inspiring concepts that I am learning about, I will be making regular contributions to the AWC blog, focused on leadership concepts. In addition to my monthly contributions, I have invited a host of prominent leaders in the agriculture industry to tell us how they apply these concepts in the communities and organizations where they lead.

My hope is that this will spark a discussion about leadership in all areas of the ag sector, be it at the farm level, in your community, or with the projects or people that you lead as part of your daily life. I encourage you to join what I hope will be a national conversation about leadership in agriculture.
