Major Market Initiatives
Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
AWC showed support throughout the federal government’s process of concluding the TPP as this new trade agreement holds the potential for expanded market opportunities in key wheat export markets. AWC looks forward to reviewing the details of the agreement and in doing so, we will develop a case for our continued support – we plan to quantify the benefits that the TPP will entail for the Canadian value chain.
AWC recently submitted a letter to Federal Agriculture Minister, Honourable Laurence MacCaulay, and Federal International Trade Minister, Chrystia Freeland, encouraging the Canadian government to ratify and implement the TPP agreement as quickly as possible. AWC indicated that being left outside the historic agreement would be detrimental to Alberta’s growers as it contains Canada’s major competitors Australia and the United States as well as an export market valued at more than $1.5 billion in annual farm revenues.
