Commission Welcomes New Communications Manager and Markets Manager
Attracting seasoned, full-time staff is next critical step in delivering value to producers.
(Calgary, Alberta) – The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) is pleased to welcome two new staff members to theirteam – Darren Jorgensen as Communications Manager and Jeff Jackson in the role of Markets Manager.
Having owned and operated his own video production company for the past six years, Darren Jorgensen comes to the AWC with an entrepreneurial spirit and extensive background in digital media, video production, creative development and social media marketing. "Darren is a great new addition to the AWC," says Rick Istead, General Manager. "We are excited about the approach he will bring to expanding our communications efforts with our most important audience, our producers."
As the AWC’s Communications Manager, Darren will be responsible for all aspects of the AWC’s strategic communications initiatives including producer and stakeholder engagement, promotions, media relations, social media and growing the AWC brand. Eager to put his creativity, skills and experience to work for the AWC, Darren adds, "I’m looking forward to doing my part to help Alberta’s wheat producers thrive and be profitable."
Jeff Jackson brings more than 10 years of progressive agri-business, sales and marketing experience to the AWC including working in procurement, inventory management, market development and sales. Jeff joins the Alberta Wheat Commission from Scoular Canada Inc., where he served as Market Manager Pulses, focusing on managing Scoular’s worldwide pulse business unit, as well as developing new sales initiatives and opening new markets for pulses. "Jeff’s extensive experience and knowledge of agricultural marketing and sales at provincial, national and global levels will help us deliver significant, long-term value to Alberta’s wheat producers," offers Istead.
As the AWC’s Markets Manager, Jeff will be responsible for the development of the overall organizational marketing and market development strategy including the establishment and management of new marketing initiatives and programs focused on end-use demand that will increase the long term profitability of wheat growers across the province. When asked what one thing excites him most about coming to work for the AWC Jeff is quick to reply, "It’s being in on the ground floor of something new like this, and helping build the AWC into something that works so well that growers can’t live without it."
