Cereals Canada: USA tolerance established for MANIPULATOR Plant Growth Regulator
Winnipeg, Tuesday, April 26, 2018 – Cereals Canada is pleased that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum residue limit (MRL) on chlormequat chloride, the active ingredient in MANIPULATOR Plant Growth Regulator.
Cam Dahl, President of Cereals Canada noted that this is good news for Canadian farms.“This product is a potentially valuable tool that has seen limited use in Canada because of the lack of approval in the U.S. and the regulatory risk that this entailed. Now that the EPA has established an MRL, this barrier to use has been resolved.”
The Keep it Clean – Cereals program had previously included cautions on the use of products containing chlormequat chloride. Given the establishment of the U.S. MRL, comments or reference to chlormequat chloride will now be removed from all print and digital materials related to the Keep it Clean - Cereals campaign.
“Cereals Canada extends appreciation to Engage Agro Corporation,” stated Dahl. The product has had approval for use in Canada for a number of years but Engage Agro has not actively marketed it to farmers because of the potential risk for exports moving to the U.S. “This is an example of responsible product introduction that manages regulatory divergence while considering potential costs and benefits to all parts of the value chain,” concluded Dahl.
